This tour explores the Alentejo region Portugal around its beautiful capital, Évora and its many lovely small villages with castles, churches and wineries. Sights on route include the pretty village of Alvito, the beautiful white village of Monsaraz with its view over the lake, Terena, with its white houses decorated with roses and bougainvillea, the grand Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa, and finally Estremoz, the city of marble. The route rolls along through olive groves, vineyards and cork oaks. A tour which will give you an enticing glimpse of unknown Portugal.

Arrival in Évora and transfer to first hotel in Arraiolos. Meeting with guide for bike adjustments and explanation of tour. Clients are then independent.

Évora

The bike tour starts cycling through Arraiolos village, famous for its carpets, pastry, and its rich historical centre. Climb to the castle, one of the few circular shaped castles in the world, and conquer its unforgettable views from there. Riding through secondary undulating roads we reach the cheese farm, where they also produce local liqueurs. A really tasty stop! It’s now time to visit a winery where there is a fantastic private carriage collection. We will have our lunch here. We reach our final destination, Évora, riding on the ecotrail, a green lane built on top of an old railway, traffic free, great for cycling.

Megalithic Route (Évora - Évora) Cycling tour around Évora. Today we visit some of the most important megalithic monuments of the region. The landscape is lovely, with many cork trees. We will visit the Dolmen of Zambugeiro - the biggest in Europe, the Cromlech of Almendres, the Menir of Almendres and the roman ruins of Tourega.

The Valley of the River Degebe (Évora - Reguengos de Monsaraz) We ride through olive groves to reach the small and traditional village of Nossa Srª de Machede. We then pass theCastle of Valongo. In Reguengos de Monsaraz we can visit the gorgeous winery where they still have a room with the old clay pots to keep the wine.

Conquest of the Castle of Monsaraz (Reguengos de Monsaraz - Monsaraz) We will visit the famous pottery village o fS. Pedrodo Corval, where you can see the men working the clay, transforming it into beautiful pots and plates, and the ladies painting them with flowers. Then we reach the gorgeous village of Monsaraz, built in a castle on top of a hill. From Monsaraz you'll take in the beautiful view over the lake of the Alqueva Dam, the largest reservoir of Europe.

The Marble Route (Monsaraz - Vila Viçosa) We leave the schist land and discover the marble kingdom. We start by visiting the impressive sanctuary of Nossa Srª da Boa Nova and the village centre of Terena. After we pass by the lunar landscape of the marble quarries of Bencatel area, from where the "white gold" was extracted to build gorgeous cities as Estremoz and Borba.
